About Klipsch
Paul Klipsch founded the company in 1946 in Hope, Arkansas, around a single idea: that a horn, using the corner of the room as an extension of its mouth, could produce full-range sound at efficiencies a direct-radiating speaker cannot approach. The Klipschorn has been made continuously since 1946, which no other loudspeaker can claim. Klipsch argued for high efficiency and low distortion for decades while the industry went the other way toward small, inefficient sealed boxes that needed large amplifiers.
An engineer with a mathematics and railway background, and a famous contrarian - he wore a badge reading BULLSHIT and pressed it at trade shows when he heard a claim he did not believe.
Paul Klipsch is one of the genuine characters of audio - the bow tie, the hearing-aid battery advertisements, the BULLSHIT badge - and the Heritage line is still built in the same small Arkansas town he started in, which is unusual for a brand of that size. Klipsch horns are also a staple of the reggae and dub sound-system tradition and of the vintage-horn revival driven by low-power valve amplifiers.
Bought by Voxx International in 2011, now inside the Premium Audio Company joint venture with Sharp.
