About KLH

KLH was founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1957 by Henry Kloss, Malcolm Low and Josef Anton Hofmann, all from Acoustic Research, and it became one of the defining companies of the American acoustic-suspension era. The Model Eight FM table radio and the Model Nine full-range electrostatic are still sought after. The company faded through a series of owners; the trademark was bought in 2017 and relaunched from Indiana with speakers that deliberately quote the original walnut-and-linen look.

Henry Kloss had just co-founded Acoustic Research and would later found Advent, Kloss Video and Cambridge SoundWorks. He is one of the most consequential figures in American audio.

Henry Kloss is the connecting thread through Acoustic Research, KLH, Advent and Cambridge SoundWorks, and between them those companies did more than anyone to make decent sound affordable in postwar America.

The name was revived in 2017 by David Kelley, who bought the trademark and restarted the brand in Indiana.
