About MartinLogan

MartinLogan solved a problem that had limited electrostatics for decades: a flat panel beams, so the listening position is a single seat. Its curvilinear line source curves the stator so the panel radiates across a usable horizontal window. Most models are hybrids, letting the panel cover the midrange and treble and handing the bass to a powered dynamic woofer, because a panel large enough to make real bass would be impossible to live with. The transparent panels also solved a domestic argument that had nothing to do with sound.

Gayle MARTIN Sanders and Ron LOGAN Sutherland. Sutherland later founded his own phono-stage company.

Electrostatics are a minority tradition running from Quad ESL through Acoustat and Sound Lab, and MartinLogan is the company that took it furthest into ordinary living rooms.

Part of the Sound United group; passed to Masimo in 2022 and to Harman in 2025.
