About Wilson Audio

David Wilson founded Wilson Audio in 1974 as a recording engineer who needed a monitor he could trust, and the WAMM of 1981 announced the arrival of a genuinely no-limits price tier in loudspeakers. The WATT of 1986, a small monitor originally built as a portable location-recording reference, paired with the Puppy bass module to become the WATT/Puppy - one of the most successful high-end speakers ever made. Wilson formulates and machines its own cabinet composites rather than using wood or MDF, and its upper models let the installer physically adjust driver module positions for the listening distance.

David Wilson was a recording engineer who built a speaker good enough to judge his own master tapes on. He died in 2018; his son Daryl runs the company.

Wilson is the brand most often used as shorthand for how far the high end goes, for better and worse - it is simultaneously admired for genuine materials engineering and used as the standard example of audio prices detached from ordinary life.
