About Definitive Technology

Definitive Technology built its identity on two ideas: bipolar drivers firing forward and back to spread the sound field, and a powered woofer inside the tower so a home-theatre buyer did not need a separate subwoofer box. It was one of the American brands that grew with home cinema in the 1990s rather than with two-channel hi-fi.

Sandy Gross had already co-founded Polk Audio and would later co-found GoldenEar - three American speaker brands from one person.

Part of the Sound United group, which passed to Masimo in 2022 and then to Harman in 2025.
