About Edifier

Edifier was founded in Beijing in May 1996, in the first wave of Chinese consumer-electronics brands selling under their own name rather than building for others. It grew on multimedia and powered bookshelf speakers for computers, and the R1280T, a wooden two-way pair with its own amplifier for about a hundred dollars, became one of the best-selling powered speakers in the world. The company listed on the Shenzhen exchange in 2010, bought the Japanese electrostatic headphone maker STAX in 2011-2012, and added the MR studio-monitor line in 2021 with the MR4.

Edifier is the reason a decent powered pair under 150 dollars is normal. Before the R1280T the choice at that price was plastic computer speakers.

Listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange since 2010 (002351). Owns the Japanese electrostatic headphone maker STAX, bought in 2011-2012, and the Airpulse speaker brand developed with the British designer Phil Jones.
