About ATC

ATC began in 1974 as a drive-unit company selling to other manufacturers and to studios, and only later put its own cabinets around them. Its signature part is a 3-inch soft-dome midrange with a hand-built motor, which covers the band where the ear is most sensitive without a crossover point sitting in the middle of it. That driver, and the very heavy magnets behind it, are why ATC speakers are so much heavier and so much harder to drive than their size suggests.

Woodman built drive units first and complete speakers second, which is still the order of priority at ATC.

ATC monitors are a fixture in British recording studios - Abbey Road, Metropolis and the BBC among them - so a good deal of music made in the UK was mixed on them. Pink Floyd and Mark Knopfler are among the users the company has named over the years.
