KEF LS LUXE vs LS60 Wireless vs LS50 Wireless II: What the $4,000 KEF Adds

The KEF LS LUXE just won a What Hi-Fi Award. It costs $1,000 more than the LS50 Wireless II and $2,000 less than the LS60. What each step buys you.

Published: November 05, 2026

KEF did well in this year’s What Hi-Fi Awards. In the class What Hi-Fi calls speaker systems, the wireless pairs with the amplifiers and streaming built in, KEF took three of the four trophies. The new LS LUXE won the top class, over GBP 3,000.

The LS LUXE costs $4,000 a pair in the US. It came out at the end of July. That puts it between two KEF models that have been around for years: the LS50 Wireless II at $2,999 and the LS60 Wireless tower at $6,000.

Those are also the two speakers people compare it with on this site. Since August, the LS60 has been the LS LUXE’s most common rival here, in close to a third of all LS LUXE comparisons. The LS50 Wireless II is third. In between sits a non-KEF pair, the Cambridge Audio L/R X. I come back to that one below.

Quick facts: KEF LS LUXE
  • $4,000 a pair. In Dusk Titanium, Eclipse Black or Mineral White. The matching floor stands are $799.99 extra.
  • One 6.5-inch Uni-Q driver and 380 watts per speaker. A 1-inch aluminium tweeter sits in the middle of the cone. 280 W drives the bass and 100 W the tweeter.
  • 42 Hz to 28 kHz (±3 dB). 35 Hz at -6 dB.
  • HDMI eARC, optical, coaxial and a 3.5 mm analogue input. AirPlay, Chromecast, Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz Connect. Roon Ready is promised for 2027.
  • 336 mm tall, 223 mm wide, 298 mm deep. 20 kg for the pair.

The KEF wireless range, step by step

Prices are KEF’s current US list prices. The bass figures are KEF’s own, all measured the same way (±3 dB), so these ones you can compare.

  • LSX II LT, $999 a pair. 4.5-inch Uni-Q, 54 Hz. It also won a What Hi-Fi Award this year, in the cheaper class.
  • LSX II, $1,499 a pair. The same drivers and the same 54 Hz. The two speakers link wirelessly, where the LT needs a cable between them.
  • LS50 Wireless II, $2,999 a pair. 5.25-inch Uni-Q, 380 W per speaker, 45 Hz.
  • LS LUXE, $4,000 a pair. 6.5-inch Uni-Q, 380 W per speaker, 42 Hz.
  • LS60 Wireless, $6,000 a pair. A slim tower. A 4-inch Uni-Q for the mids and treble, four 5.25-inch woofers, 700 W per speaker, 31 Hz.

All of them are in the KEF LS series on this site.

LS LUXE vs LS50 Wireless II: $1,000 for a bigger driver

KEF’s own FAQ calls the LS LUXE a premium step up from the LS50 Wireless II. On paper the step is smaller than the price gap.

  • The driver is bigger. 6.5 inches against 5.25 inches. That is about half as much cone area again, which is where the extra loudness and bass come from.
  • The bass goes 3 Hz deeper. 42 Hz against 45 Hz at ±3 dB, and 35 Hz against 40 Hz at -6 dB.
  • The power is the same. 380 W per speaker in both, with Class D for the bass and Class AB for the tweeter.
  • The amplifier is new. KEF says the LS LUXE uses a current-drive amplifier and a feedback system it calls VECO (Velocity Control), which senses the cone’s movement to cut distortion. This is the first KEF wireless speaker with it.
  • The connections are newer. Wi-Fi 6 against Wi-Fi 5, and a subwoofer output on each speaker instead of one.

The size difference is real but not big. The LS LUXE is 58 mm taller and 23 mm wider, but 24 mm less deep. Both pairs weigh about 20 kg. So the LS LUXE fits anywhere the LS50 Wireless II fits, if you have the height.

LS LUXE vs LS60 Wireless: $2,000 more for a tower

The LS60 is the speaker readers here hold the LS LUXE up against most. That makes sense: both are the expensive end of KEF’s wireless range. But they are different shapes of speaker.

The LS60 is a floor-standing tower, 1,090 mm tall. It has a separate 4-inch Uni-Q for the mids and treble and four 5.25-inch woofers. It has 700 W per speaker against 380 W, and KEF rates it to 31 Hz against 42 Hz. That is 11 Hz deeper. For bass without a subwoofer, the LS60 is the bigger step.

The LS LUXE is a standmount. It needs a shelf or stands, and it takes up much less floor. If you will add a subwoofer anyway, or your room is small, the LS LUXE gets you most of the way for $2,000 less.

The non-KEF one readers check: Cambridge Audio L/R X

The Cambridge Audio L/R X is $2,399 a pair. That is $1,600 less than the LS LUXE. Cambridge rates it at 800 W in total and 35 Hz, with 5-inch woofers and 6-inch passive radiators. It also has a phono stage for a turntable, which the LS LUXE does not.

Cambridge does not say how it measured that 35 Hz, so I would not set it against KEF’s 42 Hz. The L/R X is also a waitlist product at Cambridge’s US store right now. But on features per dollar, it is the pair that makes the LS LUXE look expensive.

The catch: the LS50 Wireless II is on sale for $2,199

KEF’s own US store has the LS50 Wireless II at $2,199.99 this week, down from $2,999.99. At that price the gap to the LS LUXE is $1,800.

KEF LS50 Wireless II pair in Carbon Black, 2,199 dollars on sale at KEF this week
KEF LS50 Wireless II pair in Carbon Black, 2,199 dollars on sale at KEF this week

For $1,800 you get a bigger driver, 3 Hz more bass on KEF’s figures, the new amplifier and a cabinet shaped by Ross Lovegrove. You do not get more power. What Hi-Fi gave the LS LUXE five stars and says it is better in dynamics, volume and bass. I believe that. But it is a lot of money for a refinement of a speaker that won the next price class down in the same awards.

There is a smaller catch too. The LS LUXE is not Roon Ready yet. KEF says that comes in a free update in 2027. The LS50 Wireless II and the LS60 are Roon Ready today.

Two prices that moved, and one thing I could not pin down

Prices. KEF has raised two of these since we last checked. The LS60 Wireless is now $5,999.99 at KEF’s US store, up from $4,999. The LSX II is $1,499.99, up from $1,299. I have updated both pages. The Cambridge L/R X has also gone from $2,299 to $2,399.

Bluetooth. KEF’s LS LUXE spec table says Bluetooth 5.3. The FAQ on the same page says Bluetooth 5.0. I have used the spec table.

Who the LS LUXE is not for

Anyone who wants the most bass for the money. The LS60 goes 11 Hz deeper. An LS50 Wireless II on sale leaves $1,800 for a subwoofer.

Roon users who want it now. Support is a 2027 promise.

Anyone who wants a turntable straight in. There is no phono input. The LS LUXE has a 3.5 mm analogue input, so you need a turntable with its own phono stage.

The KEF LS LUXE costs $4,000 a pair and won What Hi-Fi's top speaker system award. Against the LS50 Wireless II it adds a 6.5-inch driver instead of 5.25 inches, 3 Hz more bass and a new amplifier, with the same 380 W per speaker. The $6,000 LS60 Wireless tower goes 11 Hz deeper. The weak point is value: the LS50 Wireless II is $2,199 on sale at KEF right now, $1,800 less.
