What Hi-Fi reviewed the Michi Prestige X430 this week and liked it a lot. That sent me to our own two rows. Michi is Rotel's high-end brand, so the Michi X430 has a sibling from the same company at almost the same price: the Rotel RA-6000.
The Michi Prestige X430 and the Rotel RA-6000
The RA-6000 is one of the most compared amplifiers on this site, in the top 5 percent of the 378 amplifiers and receivers we list. The X430 is new and barely compared yet. So this is the question a lot of RA-6000 shoppers are about to ask. I read Rotel's spec sheets and manuals for both, and looked at the back panels.

Three power figures, and the cheaper amp wins two
Rotel publishes three power numbers for both amplifiers, and it is worth reading all three. Our site uses the FTC figure, the one measured to the US Federal Trade Commission's amplifier rule, because it is the one that compares fairly across brands. None of these gaps is big enough to hear by itself. Ten or fifteen watts either way is a fraction of a decibel. But the direction is clear. On Rotel's own numbers, the extra 500 dollars does not buy more amplifier.
One more thing from the power table. The RA-6000's three figures, 235, 200 and 350 watts, are exactly the same as those of Michi's own X3 Series 2, which costs more than either amplifier here.

The back panels tell the story
Put the two rear panels one above the other and they are close to identical. Same phono input, same three RCA line inputs, same balanced XLR input, same three optical and three coaxial inputs, same two subwoofer outputs, same preamp output, same A and B speaker terminals, same network port, 12V trigger and RS232 for control systems.

The X430 adds one thing you will use: an HDMI ARC input. Plug in the TV and its sound goes through the amplifier, and the TV remote controls the volume. Rotel limits it to two channels at up to 48 kHz, which is all a stereo amplifier needs from a TV. It also swaps the USB-B computer input for USB-C.
Everything else that differs is on the front or inside:
- Display. The X430 has a large colour screen that can show VU meters or a spectrum. The RA-6000 has a two-line text display.
- DAC. The X430 uses an ESS ES9039Q2M chip and plays DSD from a computer. The RA-6000 uses a Texas Instruments DAC and decodes MQA.
- Front USB. Only the RA-6000 has a front USB-A socket for an iPhone or iPad.
- Finish. The X430 comes in black. The RA-6000 comes in black or silver.

Inside, both are built the same way: a large custom toroidal transformer in the middle, and a heatsink down each side. The RA-6000 carries about 1.9 kg more of it. Rotel gives the size as 431 x 148 x 422 mm for the X430 and 431 x 144 x 425 mm for the RA-6000, so either one fits where the other did.
Where the X430 is hard to justify
If you do not need HDMI, the RA-6000 is the same amplifier for less. Same inputs, same outputs, same Class AB design, and higher on two of Rotel's three power ratings. A TV with an optical output can already use either amplifier's optical input.
Neither one streams, at 4,499 or 4,999. Both have a network port, but Rotel uses it for updates and control systems, not music. Both are Roon Tested, which here means Roon plays to them through the USB input. Budget for a separate streamer with either.
Do not trust the X430 manual on outputs. Rotel's X430 owner's manual describes two pairs of XLR balanced outputs. The back panel in Rotel's own photographs has one pair of XLR sockets, labelled BALANCED IN, and the spec sheet lists only input figures for them. If you plan to add a power amplifier over XLR, check a real unit first.
The RA-6000 is four years old. It launched in 2022 at 4,499 dollars and still sells at that price, which is rare now. But Crutchfield no longer carries it, while Audio Advice shows it in stock. If you want one, it may not be around forever.

On this site, the RA-6000 gets put next to Rotel's own RA-1592 MKII more than anything else, then the Parasound Halo HINT 6, the Yamaha A-S2200, the Rotel RA-1572 MKII and the McIntosh MA5300. Now the X430 goes on that list too.
Being straight about our own data: our RA-6000 page listed Rotel's continuous figure of 200 watts, while every Michi page lists the FTC figure. That made the X430 look 20 watts stronger on our compare page, when Rotel rates it 15 watts weaker. The RA-6000 now shows its FTC figure of 235 watts, and both pages have their missing HDMI, DAC and output details filled in from Rotel's spec sheets.
