Which speakers suit the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3?

100 W into 8 ohms, 200 W into 4, rated down to 4 ohms. We rank every passive speaker we cover against it on power, impedance safety and current delivery.

We check power, impedance safety and current delivery — not just watts.

When pairing the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 with a passive Bookshelf (Stand mount) or Passive Floor Standing (Tower) speaker, you have to check if their Max Power Range is below the max wattage of the amp for the given impedance levels. Operating your amp outside of this max range may damage the speakers.

Frequently Asked Questions about Rogue Audio Sphinx v3

How much power does the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 have?

The Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 delivers 100 watts x 2 channels into 8 ohms and 200 watts x 2 channels into 4 ohms. Its output almost doubles into 4 ohms, which points to a strong power supply that can hold its composure with demanding, low-impedance speakers.

Does the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 use vacuum tubes?

Partly. The Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 is a hybrid - vacuum tubes in the input and driver stages feed a solid-state output stage, so it takes some of the character of a valve amplifier with the power and the load tolerance of a transistor one. It runs 2x 12AU7.

How long do the tubes in the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 last?

Output valves are a consumable. In normal domestic use a set lasts somewhere between about 2,000 and 5,000 hours - a few years for most people - and they degrade gradually rather than failing outright. Input and driver valves last far longer, often the life of the amplifier. Note that the tubes carry their own warranty of 6 months, separate from the amplifier itself - valves are almost never covered by the main parts warranty.

What amplifier class is the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3?

The Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 uses a Class D amplifier design. Class D is a modern switching design that runs cool and wastes very little energy as heat, which is how makers fit high power into a compact, light chassis.

Does the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 have a built-in DAC?

No. The Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 has no built-in DAC, so a digital source such as a streamer or CD transport needs its own converter, or you connect it over analogue.

Can I connect a turntable to the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3?

Yes. The Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 has a built-in phono stage for MM AND MC/ 44 DB AND 60 DB GAIN cartridges, so a turntable can be connected directly without a separate phono preamp.

Does the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 have Bluetooth?

No. The Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 does not have Bluetooth built in; you would need an external Bluetooth receiver connected to one of its inputs.

Does the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 have a headphone output?

Yes. The Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 has a Yes-inch headphone output on the front panel for private listening.

How much does the Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 cost?

The Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 has a manufacturer's list price (MSRP) of $1,795.
