Amplifier and speaker matching tool

Pick a speaker and tell us how loud you listen and how big the room is. We work out the power it actually needs, check which amplifiers can safely drive its impedance, and rank 194 amplifiers against it.

Four questions. Nothing is hidden on price.

Passive speakers only — a powered speaker already has its amplifier inside.
Changes the order only. Nothing is hidden for costing too little or too much.

What this actually checks

Three things decide whether an amplifier and a speaker get on, and only one of them is watts.

  • Power. How many watts the speaker needs to reach your listening level in your room, worked out from its sensitivity - not from the number on the box.
  • Impedance. Whether the amplifier is rated to drive the load. This is the one that damages equipment, and it is the one most buyers skip.
  • Current. Whether the amplifier's power rises when the impedance halves, which is the cheapest honest proxy for a power supply that copes with a hard load.

Pick a speaker on the left to start. Every result gets its own link you can share.
