In this review, we will be comparing two different type of speakers by KEF. KEF Q6 Meta is a Center Channel speaker whereas the Q1 Meta is a Bookshelf speaker.
Let's have a brief look at the main features
of KEF Q6 Meta and KEF Q1 Meta first before getting into our more
detailed comparison.
Q6 Meta and Q1 Meta are members of KEF's Q Meta series of speakers. Below you can find the loudspeakers from this series.
KEF Q Meta Series History
What size room are the KEF Q6 Meta and KEF Q1 Meta speakers good for?
The size of the room in which you are planning to use these loudspeakers is an important decision factor. Here we have compared their suitability to various sizes of environments considering their size and max power parameters:
In the following sections, we will get into more detail in order to better understand how the KEF Q6 Meta and KEF Q1 Meta compare and hopefully end up with enough arguments to decide which one of these loudspeakers is the better choice for you.

Drivers
One of the fundamental differences between these two speakers is that Q6 Meta is a 3-way design whereas the Q1 Meta is a 2-way speaker. 3-way designs utilize a midrange driver in addition to the tweeter and woofer on 2-way designs. Designing a crossover for a 3-way speaker is a complicated process and generally increases the overall cost of the speaker.

Q6 Meta features a 0.75" vented aluminum dome with MAT absorber Hard-dome Tweeter , a 4" Midrange and 2 x 6.5" Aluminum Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 560 Hz, 2.7 kHz. On the other hand, the Q1 Meta features a 1" vented aluminum dome with MAT absorber Hard dome Tweeter and 1 x 5.25" Aluminum Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 2.1 kHz.
Frequency Response
Q6 Meta has a frequency range of 63-20k Hz whereas Q1 Meta has a frequency range of 51-20k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 51Hz, the Q1 Meta can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the Q6 Meta's min frequency of 63Hz.
Below graphs depict how these two speakers compare with the max, min and average values of the Min and Max Frequencies of other speakers in the Center Channel class in our database.

High Frequency
Center Channel Speakers
None of these speakers achieves full range experience which is commonly agreed as 20Hz-20kHz. In order to achieve lower lows / deeper bass, we recommend you pair these with a subwoofer. Visit our Powered Subwoofers section to find out more about the available options.
Impedance and Sensitivity
Q6 Meta and Q1 Meta have the same Impedance of 4 ohms and their sensitivity is also same at 86 dB.
One thing to keep in mind that the lower impedance speakers, especially the ones that are rated at 4 ohms may put more pressure on the amplifier unit comared to higher impedance speakers especially at high volume levels, so make sure the amp you pair with the Q6 Meta and the Q6 Meta can provide this impedance level.

Power Range
Power
range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.
Q6 Meta can handle a max power of 200 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Q1 Meta has a max power handling value of 150 watts RMS, 50 watts less than the Q6 Meta.
Keep in mind that a higher max power handling value doesn't necessarily make that a louder speaker
compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parameters
such as Impedance, sensitivity and system efficiencies.
Input Type and Bi-Amping / Bi-Wiring
Q6 Meta features Binding Post type posts and Q1 Meta has a Binding Post type posts. None of these speakers feature bi-amping/bi-wiring.
Physical Specs
Size of a speaker can sometimes become an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons. In this section, we are going to compare KEF Q6 Meta's and KEF Q1 Meta's external dimensions. KEF Q6 Meta has external dimensions of 210 x 629 x 303 mm ( 8.3 x 24.8 x 11.9 in.) whereas KEF Q1 Meta has external dimensions of 302 x 180 x 277 mm ( 11.9 x 7.1 x 10.9 in.) .
KEF Q1 Meta is 449mm narrower and 26mm less deeper than KEF Q6 Meta but it is also 92mm taller.
Base Surface Area Comparison
Base surface area of a loudspeaker may become a determining factor when the space in your room or desk is limited.
The base surface area of the KEF Q6 Meta is approximately 1905.9cm2 / 295.4inch2 and base area of the KEF Q1 Meta is approximately 498.6cm2 / 77.3inch2. The Q6 Meta requires 282% more surface area than the Q1 Meta which gives it a small disadvantage on placement in tight spaces.
