Power Range

Power range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. Staying within that range gives nominal performance; driving the speaker beyond its maximum wattage can damage it.

Dovedale can handle a max power of 250 watts RMS, whereas AK7 has a max power handling value of 100 watts RMS, 150 watts less than the Dovedale.

Note that higher power handling does not make a speaker louder: that depends mainly on sensitivity and impedance. The calculator below shows how loud each of these actually plays on a real amplifier.

Verdict

A floor-standing against a bookshelf. They are built for different places in a room, so start with where these have to go rather than which looks better on paper.

AreaBetterWhy
Bassevenly matchedMuch the same reach (34Hz vs 36Hz).
Amplifier needsAKlipsch Klipschorn AK7 is more sensitive (103dB vs 89dB), so it goes louder on the same amplifier.
Amplifier matchAKlipsch Klipschorn AK7 is the easier load at 8 ohms.
HeadroomBWharfedale Dovedale takes more power (250W vs 100W) - more in hand in a big room.
SizedependsWharfedale Dovedale is easier to place; Klipsch Klipschorn AK7 is bigger, which usually goes with fuller bass. Your room decides.
TypedependsA Passive Floor-standing against a Passive Bookshelf - a different job rather than a better one.
CabinetdependsSealed vs Ported. Sealed is tighter and happier near a wall; ported digs lower but wants space behind it.
ExpandabilitydependsKlipsch Klipschorn AK7: bi-amping; Wharfedale Dovedale: bi-amping. Klipsch Klipschorn AK7 sits in a wider range (12 models), so a matched surround system is easier later.
PriceBWharfedale Dovedale is cheaper - $5,000 against $17,998, about 72% less; arguably a different class.

A Klipsch Klipschorn AK7  B Wharfedale Dovedale
depends neither is better in the abstract - it turns on your room, your system or how you will use them. Only specs published for both speakers are judged; anything missing on either side is left out rather than guessed.

Which should you choose?

Klipsch Klipschorn AK7 is ahead, but only on 1 of the measured areas, and it costs about 3.6x the price. That is a lot of money for a narrow margin on paper - Wharfedale Dovedale looks like the sensible buy unless something else about the Klipsch Klipschorn AK7 appeals to you. In a large or open-plan room, Klipsch Klipschorn AK7 has the cabinet volume to fill it more easily; in a small room, near a wall or at desk distance, Wharfedale Dovedale is the easier speaker to get right. If your amplifier is modest, vintage or valve-based, Klipsch Klipschorn AK7 is the safer partner - the other will want more current or more watts to sound its best.

And remember what a spec sheet cannot show: how each looks in your room and whether the finish suits it, what dealer support and warranty are like where you live, and how they actually sound to you. If you can hear them first - ideally with your own music - that will tell you more than any number above.
