Drivers
One of the fundamental differences between these two speakers is that Focus 50 is a 3-way design whereas the Focus 20 XD is a 2-way speaker. 3-way designs utilize a midrange driver in addition to the tweeter and woofer on 2-way designs. Designing a crossover for a 3-way speaker is a complicated process and generally increases the overall cost of the speaker.

Focus 50 features a 1.1" Cerotar Soft-Dome Tweeter , a 6" Midrange and 2 x 7" MSP Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 220 Hz - 2400 Hz. On the other hand, the Focus 20 XD features a 1.1" Coated-Silk Soft-Dome Tweeter and 1 x 6.7" Magnesium Silicate Polymer Woofer .
Frequency Response
Focus 50 has a frequency range of 22-22k Hz whereas Focus 20 XD has a frequency range of 39-24k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 20Hz, the Focus 50 can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the Focus 20 XD's min frequency of 39Hz.

Size of a speaker can sometimes become an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons. Base surface area of a loudspeaker may become a determining factor when the space in your room or desk is limited.
The base surface area of the Dynaudio Focus 50 is approximately 655.8cm2 / 101.6inch2 and base area of the Dynaudio Focus 20 XD is approximately 611.1cm2 / 94.7inch2. The Focus 50 requires 7% more surface area than the Focus 20 XD which gives it a small disadvantage on placement in tight spaces.
