Frequency Response

A3t has a frequency range of 31-27k Hz whereas Epicon 8 has a frequency range of 35-30k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 31Hz, the A3t can go slightly deeper then the Epicon 8's min frequency of 35Hz.

The graph below depicts how these two speakers compare with the max, min and average Low Frequency values of other speakers in the Floor-standing class in our database.

Neither pair reaches down to 20Hz, the usual definition of full-range, which is normal for speakers of this size. If you want the bottom octave for movies or bass-heavy music, add a subwoofer to whichever you choose. Visit our Powered Subwoofers section to find out more about the available options.

Impedance and Sensitivity

A3t is a 4 ohms speaker compared to the Epicon 8 which has a nominal impedance of 5 ohms. Lower impedance speakers, especially the ones that are rated at 4 ohms may put more pressure on the amplifier unit especially when played at high volume levels, so make sure the amp you pair with the A3t can provide this impedance level.

These two speakers also have different sensitivity levels. A3t sensitivity is rated at 87.7 dB and the Epicon 8's is rated at 89 dB. This 1 dB difference makes the DALI Epicon 8 a more sensitive speaker compared to Perlisten A3t, hence will play louder with the same amount of watts.

Power Range

Power range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. Staying within that range gives nominal performance; driving the speaker beyond its maximum wattage can damage it.

Epicon 8 can handle a max power of 500 watts RMS, whereas A3t has a max power handling value of 300 watts RMS, 200 watts less than the Epicon 8.

Note that higher power handling does not make a speaker louder: that depends mainly on sensitivity and impedance. The calculator below shows how loud each of these actually plays on a real amplifier.

Verdict

These sit in different price classes - DALI Epicon 8 costs roughly 4.5x what Perlisten A3t does. Expect it to lead on paper; the question is whether the gap is audible enough in your room to be worth it.

AreaBetterWhy
BassAPerlisten A3t digs deeper - 31Hz against 35Hz. A subwoofer would even that out.
Amplifier needsevenly matchedSimilar sensitivity (88dB vs 89dB) - both want much the same power.
Amplifier matchBDALI Epicon 8 is the easier load at 5 ohms; the other is 4 ohms and wants an amplifier rated for it.
HeadroomBDALI Epicon 8 takes more power (500W vs 300W) - more in hand in a big room.
SizedependsSimilar cabinet size - neither is easier to fit.
ExpandabilityBDALI Epicon 8: bi-amping.
PriceAPerlisten A3t is cheaper - $4,990 against $22,500, about 78% less; arguably a different class.

A Perlisten A3t  B DALI Epicon 8
depends neither is better in the abstract - it turns on your room, your system or how you will use them. Only specs published for both speakers are judged; anything missing on either side is left out rather than guessed.

Which should you choose?

The usual trade-off: DALI Epicon 8 measures better, Perlisten A3t costs about about 4.5x the price% less. Whether that gap is worth the money is the call only you can make - and in a normal room it is often smaller than the numbers suggest. If your amplifier is modest, vintage or valve-based, DALI Epicon 8 is the safer partner - the other will want more current or more watts to sound its best. Think about the whole system, not just the speakers: the roughly $17,510 saved by taking the cheaper pair would buy a subwoofer or a better amplifier, and either usually does more for the sound than the difference between these two.

And remember what a spec sheet cannot show: how each looks in your room and whether the finish suits it, what dealer support and warranty are like where you live, and how they actually sound to you. If you can hear them first - ideally with your own music - that will tell you more than any number above.
