Motion 30i features a 1.0 x 1.4" Folded Motion Tweeter and 1 x 5.25" Aluminum Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 400Hz and 2600Hz. On the other hand, the Motion 8i features a 1.0 x 1.4" Folded Motion Tweeter and 2 x 4" poly cone woofers with rigid dust caps Woofer.
Frequency Response
Motion 30i has a frequency range of 65-25k Hz whereas Motion 8i has a frequency range of 70-23k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 65Hz, the Motion 30i can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the Motion 8i's min frequency of 70Hz.

Impedance and Sensitivity
Motion 30i and Motion 8i have the same Impedance of 4 ohms but where they differ is the sensitivity levels. Motion 30i sensitivity is rated at 91 dB and the Motion 8i's is at 89 dB. This 2 dB difference makes the MartinLogan 30i a more sensitive speaker compared to MartinLogan 8i, hence will play louder with the same amount of watts.
One thing to keep in mind that the lower impedance speakers, especially the ones that are rated at 4 ohms may put more pressure on the amplifier unit comared to higher impedance speakers especially at high volume levels, so make sure the amp you pair with the Motion 30i and the Motion 30i can provide this impedance level.

Power
range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. Staying
within that range gives nominal performance; driving the speaker beyond its maximum wattage can damage it.
Motion 30i can handle a max power of 200 watts RMS, whereas Motion 8i has a max power handling value of 180 watts RMS, 20 watts less than the Motion 30i.
Note that higher power handling does not make a speaker louder: that depends mainly on

depends neither is better in the abstract - it turns on your room, your system or how you will use them. Only specs published for both speakers are judged; anything missing on either side is left out rather than guessed.
Which should you choose?
The usual trade-off: MartinLogan 30i measures better, MartinLogan 8i costs about about 100% more% less. Whether that gap is worth the money is the call only you can make - and in a normal room it is often smaller than the numbers suggest. If a subwoofer is in your plans, the bass gap largely stops mattering - you would be crossing over above 70Hz anyway, which makes the cheaper MartinLogan 8i much easier to justify. In a large or open-plan room, MartinLogan 30i has the cabinet volume to fill it more easily; in a small room, near a wall or at desk distance, MartinLogan 8i is the easier speaker to get right.
And remember what a spec sheet cannot show: how each looks in your room and whether the finish suits it, what dealer support and warranty are like where you live, and how they actually sound to you. If you can hear them first - ideally with your own music - that will tell you more than any number above.
