Cambridge Audio Is Recalling Every YOYO (M) Speaker Ever Sold, Over a Battery Fire Risk

Cambridge Audio has recalled all YOYO (M) Bluetooth speakers sold from 2016 to 2023. The battery can go into thermal runaway. Stop using yours today.

Published: August 31, 2026

We do not list the YOYO (M) in our database (but we do many other models), so this is not our usual kind of post. We are running it anyway, because a speaker that can catch fire while it charges is worth passing on whether we cover it or not.

Cambridge Audio has recalled the YOYO (M), and the scope is unusually blunt. Not a batch. Not a date range. Every single one.

Quick facts
  • Every YOYO (M) is included. Cambridge Audio says there is no way to identify an exempt unit, whatever the purchase date or serial number.
  • Three colours: Light Grey C10930, Dark Grey C10931, Blue C10965. Sold from 2016 to 2023.
  • The YOYO (S) and YOYO (L) are not affected. Only the middle one.
  • The hazard is thermal runaway. The battery can overheat, catch fire, emit smoke and eject hot material, mostly while charging.
  • A small number of fire or smoke reports. No injuries reported.

What to do today, in order

Stop using it. Switch it off and unplug it from the charger. Do not charge it again, not even to run it down before you hand it over.

Then leave it somewhere sensible: away from anything that burns, and not on a wooden shelf or a sofa. Do not open it and do not try to take the battery out yourself. And do not put it in your normal bin or your recycling box. Cambridge Audio asks you to hold on to it until they tell you where it goes.

How to tell if yours is one

Look for the model code. The affected serial numbers start with FD C10930, FD C10931 or FD C10965, which map to the light grey, dark grey and blue versions above.

The name is the confusing part, because the YOYO family had three sizes and only the middle one is in this recall. If yours is the small (S) or the large (L), you are fine.

The part that is not sorted out yet

Here is the honest bit, and it is not great if you are in the US.

What you get back depends on where you live. France has confirmed refunds. UK and EU owners register through a form and will be contacted. As of 25 August 2026, reported by ecoustics, Cambridge Audio had not finalised what US owners get, and Canada, Australia, Japan, Israel and New Zealand were still pending too.

So a US owner is being told to stop using a speaker they paid for, with no refund or replacement confirmed. That is a real gap, and the answer is still to stop using it. A battery in thermal runaway is not a risk worth carrying while you wait for a form.

Register anyway. That is what puts you on the list to be contacted when the remedy lands, and it costs you nothing.

Worth saying plainly

Recalling ten years of a product because a small number of units caught fire, with no injuries, is the right call rather than an embarrassing one. Cambridge Audio makes plenty of gear we do hold, including the amplifiers and loudspeakers in our database, and none of that is touched by this.

This one is just about the battery in one portable speaker. If you have a YOYO (M) sitting on a kitchen counter on charge right now, go and unplug it.

Do you own one of these, and had you heard about the recall before now?
