Borea BR04 features a 1" silk Dome Tweeter and 1 x 6" Paper Cone Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 3200Hz. On the other hand, the ESL X features a 8.6 x 40" curved electrostatic transducer Tweeter and 2 x 8" high-excursion paper cone Woofer .

Frequency Response

Borea BR04 has a frequency range of 44 - 22k Hz whereas ESL X has a frequency range of 41-22k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 41Hz, the ESL X can go slightly deeper then the Borea BR04's min frequency of 44Hz.

Impedance and Sensitivity

Borea BR04 is a 8 ohms speaker compared to the ESL X which has a nominal impedance of 6 ohms.

These two speakers also have different sensitivity levels. Borea BR04 sensitivity is rated at 90 dB and the ESL X's is rated at 91 dB. This 1 dB difference makes the MartinLogan ESL X a more sensitive speaker compared to Triangle Borea BR04, hence will play louder with the same amount of watts.

Power Range

Power range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.

Borea BR04 can handle a max power of 400 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Borea BR04 has a max power handling value of 110 watts RMS , 290 watts less than the ESL X.

Keep in mind that a higher max power handling value doesn't necessarily make that a louder speaker compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parameters such as Impedance, sensitivity and system efficiencies.
