What size room are the Polk XT15 and Sony SS-CS5 speakers good for?

Drivers
One of the fundamental differences between these two speakers is that XT15 is a 2-way design whereas the SS-CS5 is a 3-way speaker. 3-way designs utilize a midrange driver in addition to the tweeter and woofer on 2-way designs. Designing a crossover for a 3-way speaker is a complicated process and generally increases the overall cost of the speaker.

XT15 features a 1" Soft-Dome Tweeter and 1 x 5.25" Bi-laminate paper Woofer . On the other hand, the SS-CS5 features a 1" polyester fiber Soft-Dome Tweeter , a 0.75" Supertweeter and 1 x 5.25" Mica Reinforced Cellular (MRC) Woofer .
Frequency Response
XT15 has a frequency range of 48-40k Hz whereas SS-CS5 has a frequency range of 53-50k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 48Hz, the XT15 can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the SS-CS5's min frequency of 53Hz.

Impedance and Sensitivity
XT15 is a 8 ohms speaker compared to the SS-CS5 which has a nominal impedance of 6 ohms.
These two speakers also have different sensitivity levels. XT15 sensitivity is rated at 86 dB and the SS-CS5's is rated at 87 dB. This 1 dB difference makes the Sony SS-CS5 a more sensitive speaker compared to Polk XT15, hence will play louder with the same amount of watts.

Power Range
Power
range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using
an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the
max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.
XT15 can handle a max power of 150 watts RMS from the amp the whereas SS-CS5 has a max power handling value of 100 watts RMS, 50 watts less than the XT15.
Keep in mind that a higher max power handling value doesn't necessarily make that a louder speaker
compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parameters
such as Impedance, sensitivity and system efficiencies.
Input Type and Bi-Amping / Bi-Wiring
XT15 features Post type posts and SS-CS5 has a Post type posts. None of these speakers feature bi-amping/bi-wiring.

Physical Specs
Size of a speaker can sometimes become an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons. In this section, we are going to compare Polk XT15's and Sony SS-CS5's external dimensions. Polk XT15 has external dimensions of 270.0 x 167.0 x 183.0mm ( 10-5/8 x 6-9/16 x 7-3/16inch) whereas Sony SS-CS5 has external dimensions of 335.0 x 178.0 x 220.0mm ( 13.1 x 7.0 x 8.6inch) .
Sony SS-CS5 is clearly the larger of the two speakers. Its body is 11mm wider, 65mm taller and 37mm deeper than Polk XT15.

Base Surface Area Comparison
Base surface area of a loudspeaker may become a determining factor when the space in your room or desk is limited.
The base surface area of the Polk XT15 is approximately 305.6cm2 / 47.4inch2 and base area of the Sony SS-CS5 is approximately 391.6cm2 / 60.7inch2. The XT15 requires 22% less surface area than the SS-CS5 which gives it a small advantage on placement in tight spaces.
