Foundation C1 features a 1" Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Ribbon Tweeter and 2 x 5-1/2" Aluminum Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 2900 Hz - 3200 Hz. On the other hand, the Foundation B1 features a 1" Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Ribbon Tweeter and 1 x 5-1/2" Aluminum Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 3400Hz.
Frequency Response
Foundation C1 has a frequency range of 53-23k Hz whereas Foundation B1 has a frequency range of 48-23k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 48Hz, the Foundation B1 can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the Foundation C1's min frequency of 53Hz.

Neither pair reaches down to 20Hz, the usual definition of full-range, which is normal for speakers of this size. If you want the bottom octave for movies or bass-heavy music, add a subwoofer to whichever you choose. Visit our Powered Subwoofers section to find out more about the available options.
Impedance and Sensitivity
Foundation C1 is a 4 ohms speaker compared to the Foundation B1 which has a nominal impedance of 5 ohms. Lower impedance speakers, especially the ones that are rated at 4 ohms may put more pressure on the amplifier unit especially when played at high volume levels, so make sure the amp you pair with the Foundation C1 can provide this impedance level.
These two speakers also have different sensitivity levels. Foundation C1 sensitivity is rated at 91 dB and the Foundation B1's is rated at 89 dB. This 2 dB difference makes the MartinLogan Foundation C1 a more sensitive speaker compared to MartinLogan Foundation B1, hence will play louder with the same amount of watts.

Power Range
Power
range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. Staying
within that range gives nominal performance; driving the speaker beyond its maximum wattage can damage it.
Foundation C1 can handle a max power of 150 watts RMS, whereas Foundation B1 has a max power handling value of 100 watts RMS, 50 watts less than the Foundation C1.
Note that higher power handling does not make a speaker louder: that depends mainly on
sensitivity and impedance. The calculator below shows how loud each of these actually plays

Input Type and Bi-Amping / Bi-Wiring
Foundation C1 features Binding post type posts and Foundation B1 has a Binding post type posts. None of these speakers feature bi-amping/bi-wiring.

Cabinet Type and Port Position
Both Foundation C1 and Foundation B1 have rear firing ports. Rear ported speakers generally need more room between the backside of the speaker and the wall compared to sealed and front/bottom ported speakers. Placing the speakers too close to the walls may cause the bass to sound boomy.

Physical Specs
The size of a speaker can sometimes be an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons. In this section, we are going to compare MartinLogan Foundation C1's and MartinLogan Foundation B1's external dimensions. MartinLogan Foundation C1 has external dimensions of 194.0 x 508.0 x 254.0mm (7-5/8inch x 20inch x 10inch) whereas MartinLogan Foundation B1 has external dimensions of 347.0 x 185.0 x 242.0mm (13-5/8inch x 7-1/4inch x 9-1/2inch).

Base Surface Area Comparison
Base surface area of a loudspeaker may become a determining factor when the space in your room or desk is limited.
The base surface area of the MartinLogan Foundation C1 is approximately 1290.3cm2 / 200.0inch2 and base area of the MartinLogan Foundation B1 is approximately 447.7cm2 / 69.4inch2. The Foundation C1 requires 188% more surface area than the Foundation B1 which gives it a small disadvantage on placement in tight spaces.
