Frequency Response

R7 Meta has a frequency range of 48-28k Hz whereas Reference 3 Meta has a frequency range of 43-35k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 43Hz, the Reference 3 Meta can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the R7 Meta's min frequency of 48Hz.

Neither pair reaches down to 20Hz, the usual definition of full-range, which is normal for speakers of this size. Impedance and Sensitivity

R7 Meta and Reference 3 Meta have the same Impedance of 4 ohms but where they differ is the sensitivity levels. R7 Meta sensitivity is rated at 88 dB and the Reference 3 Meta's is at 86 dB. This 2 dB difference makes the KEF R7 Meta a more sensitive speaker compared to KEF Reference 3 Meta, hence will play louder with the same amount of watts.

Cabinet Type and Port Position

Both R7 Meta and Reference 3 Meta have rear firing ports. Rear ported speakers generally need more room between the backside of the speaker and the wall compared to sealed and front/bottom ported speakers. Placing the speakers too close to the walls may cause the bass to sound boomy.
