Drivers

One of the fundamental differences between these two speakers is that Chora 806 is a 2-way design whereas the Chora 826-D is a 3-way speaker. 3-way designs utilize a midrange driver in addition to the tweeter and woofer on 2-way designs. Designing a crossover for a 3-way speaker is a complicated process and generally increases the overall cost of the speaker.

Chora 806 features a 1" TNV2 AI/Mg inverted dome Tweeter and 1 x 6.5" Slatefiber Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 3000Hz. On the other hand, the Chora 826-D features a 1" TNF Al/Mg inverted dome Tweeter , a 6.5" Midrange and 2 x 6.5" Slatefiber Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 270Hz and 2700Hz.

Frequency Response

Chora 806 has a frequency range of 55-28k Hz whereas Chora 826-D has a frequency range of 48-28k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 48Hz, the Chora 826-D can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the Chora 806's min frequency of 58Hz.

Impedance and Sensitivity

Chora 806 and Chora 826-D have the same Impedance of 8 ohms but where they differ is the sensitivity levels. Chora 806 sensitivity is rated at 89 dB and the Chora 826-D's is at 91 dB. This 2 dB difference makes the Focal Chora 826-D a more sensitive speaker compared to Focal Chora 806, hence will play louder with the same amount of watts.

Power Range

Power range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.

Chora 806 can handle a max power of 250 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Chora 806 has a max power handling value of 120 watts RMS , 130 watts less than the Chora 826-D.

Keep in mind that a higher max power handling value doesn't necessarily make that a louder speaker compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parameters such as Impedance, sensitivity and system efficiencies.

Input Type and Bi-Amping / Bi-Wiring

Chora 806 features Binding post type posts and Chora 826-D has a Binding post type posts. None of these speakers feature bi-amping/bi-wiring.

Cabinet Type and Port Position

Chora 806 has a rear firing port whereas Chora 826-D has a front firing ports. Focal Chora 826-D's front-firing port gives more flexibility in placement in regards to proximity to walls compared to Focal Chora 806 with its rear-firing port.
