What size room are the Buchardt S400 and Buchardt E50-S speakers good for?
The size of the room in which you are planning to use these loudspeakers is an important decision
factor. Here we have compared their suitability to various sizes of environments considering their size

S400 features a 0.74" Custom fine weave soft fabric textile aluminum waveguide Tweeter and 1 x 6" paper Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 2000Hz. On the other hand, the E50-S features a 1" Custom Scanspeak textile dome waveguide Tweeter and 1 x 7.5" Custom-made Satori TeXtreme Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 2000Hz.
Frequency Response
S400 has a frequency range of 33-40 kHz whereas E50-S has a frequency range of 38-22k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 33Hz, the S400 can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the E50-S's min frequency of 38Hz.

Impedance and Sensitivity
S400 and E50-S have the same Impedance of 4 ohms and their sensitivity is also same at 88 dB.
One thing to keep in mind that the lower impedance speakers, especially the ones that are rated at 4 ohms may put more pressure on the amplifier unit comared to higher impedance speakers especially at high volume levels, so make sure the amp you pair with the S400 and the S400 can provide this impedance level.

Power Range
Power
range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using
an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the
max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.
S400 can handle a max power of 200 watts RMS from the amp the whereas E50-S has a max power handling value of 100 watts RMS, 100 watts less than the S400.
Keep in mind that a higher max power handling value doesn't necessarily make that a louder speaker
compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parameters
such as Impedance, sensitivity and system efficiencies.
Physical Specs
Size of a speaker can sometimes become an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons. In this section, we are going to compare Buchardt S400's and Buchardt E50-S's external dimensions. Buchardt S400 has external dimensions of 375 x 180 x 245mm ( 14.75 x 7 x 9.6inch) whereas Buchardt E50-S has external dimensions of 395 x 200 x 284 mm ( 15.5 x 7.9 x 11.1 inch) .
Buchardt E50-S is clearly the larger of the two speakers. Its body is 20mm wider, 20mm taller and 39mm deeper than Buchardt S400.
Base Surface Area Comparison
Base surface area of a loudspeaker may become a determining factor when the space in your room or desk is limited.
The base surface area of the Buchardt S400 is approximately 441.0cm2 / 68.4inch2 and base area of the Buchardt E50-S is approximately 568.0cm2 / 88.0inch2. The S400 requires 22% less surface area than the E50-S which gives it a small advantage on placement in tight spaces.
