In this review, we will be comparing Sub C-8 D and SuperCube 4000, two Powered Subwoofer speakers from DALI and Definitive Technology. Being Powered subwoofers, they both have built-in amplifiers so you don't need an external power amp or an integrated amp to power them. Let's have a brief look at the main features of DALI Sub C-8 D and DT SuperCube 4000 first before getting into our more detailed comparison.

Drivers
The efficiency of a subwoofer is directly proportional to the total radiating are squared hence the woofer quantity and diameter.DALI Sub C-8 Dand DT SuperCube 4000 have the same driver set up: Both subwoofers have 1 x 8" drivers.
Frequency Response
Sub C-8 D has a frequency range of 33-200 Hz whereas SuperCube 4000 has a frequency range of 16-200 Hz. With a minimum frequency of 16Hz, the SuperCube 4000 can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the Sub C-8 D's min frequency of 33Hz.

Cabinet Type
The DALI Sub C-8 D has a Bass Reflex type cabinet. Bass Reflex type subwoofers (aka Ported, Vented or Reflex Port) have enclosures that uses a port, hole or vent cut into the cabinet. Ported designs are generally more efficient than the Sealed designs. On the other hand the DT SuperCube 4000 have Passive Radiator type enclosure. Passive Radiator type subwoofers sports a non-powered cone that moves in response to the main woofer to move air out in order to generate stronger bass in a smaller body compared to ported or sealed designs.
Physical Specs
The size of a speaker can sometimes be an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons. In this section, we are going to compare DALI Sub C-8 D's and DT SuperCube 4000's external dimensions. DALI Sub C-8 D has external dimensions of 335 x 295 x 310 mm () whereas DT SuperCube 4000 has external dimensions of 302.0 x 281.0 x 318.0mm (11-7/8 x 11-1/16 x 12-1/2inch).
DT SuperCube 4000 is 14mm narrower and 33mm shorter than DALI Sub C-8 D but it is also 8mm deeper.

Base Surface Area Comparison
Base surface area of a loudspeaker may become a determining factor when the space in your room or desk is limited.
The base surface area of the DALI Sub C-8 D is approximately 914.5cm2 / 141.7inch2 and base area of the DT SuperCube 4000 is approximately 893.6cm2 / 138.5inch2. The Sub C-8 D requires 2% more surface area than the SuperCube 4000 which gives it a small disadvantage on placement in tight spaces.
