The New McIntosh PS1K is a 35K USD Subwoofer with 1000-watt power and Dual 13-inch Drivers

McIntosh has just rolled out the PS1K powered-subwoofer, positioned as a more "affordable" option next to its flagship PS2K, which hit the market in 2023. Priced at $35,000—$15,000 less than the PS2K—calling either "affordable" is a stretch for most people. But hey, welcome to the wild world of high-end Hi-Fi!

The PS1K has a sealed enclosure that is housing two 13-inch drivers, each powered by a dedicated 500-watt Class D amplifier, totaling 1,000 watts of output. With a frequency response ranging from 20Hz to 500Hz with LFE, and 20Hz to 100Hz without LFE, the PS1K can capture a broad spectrum of low frequencies, making it versatile for various audio setups. Its amplifiers exhibit a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of only 0.05%, while the preamplifier’s THD is even lower at 0.005%.

Reaching over 113 dB (vs 120 dB of the PS2K),  we have no doubt that the PS1K will easily ensure the strong bass performance even in large rooms.

The PS1K offers extensive control over its output with high and low-pass filter adjustments from 40Hz to 100Hz, two-band parametric equalization adjustable from 30Hz to 100Hz, and continuously variable phase control. These features allow users to fine-tune the subwoofer's output to their exact specifications.
