SVS Ported vs Sealed Subwoofer Size Comparison: If you want Small and Tight, go Sealed!

Published: January 17, 2024

SVS PB-4000 Ported Subwoofer
SVS PB-4000 Ported Subwoofer

This is an age-old question: ported subwoofer or sealed subwoofer, which one to choose? There are many nicely written articles on this subject and I won't go into details but instead compare real life scaled sizes of popular subs by SVS to give a better idea about how big the difference is.

Here is a side-by-side size comparison of how the SVS PB series ported subwoofers (PB-1000 Pro, PB-2000 Pro, PB-3000 and PB-4000) compare with its SB series sealed box subwoofers (SB-1000 Pro,SB-2000 Pro,SB-3000,SB-4000). The first four subs are ported models which are clearly larger than the last four sealed box subs in the series:

As seen here, the difference between the largest PB (SVS PB-4000) and the largest SB (SVS SB-4000) series subwoofers is huge!

Even the smallest of the PB series, the SVS SB-1000 Pro is taller than the SVS SB-4000:
