Motion XT C100 features a 1.25 x 2.4" Folded Motion XT Tweeter and 2 x 6.5" Aluminum Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 1300Hz and 2500Hz. On the other hand, the Q650c features a 1" vented aluminum Dome Tweeter and 2 x 6.5" aluminum Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 2500Hz.

Frequency Response

Motion XT C100 has a frequency range of 42-25k Hz whereas Q650c has a frequency range of 64-28k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 42Hz, the Motion XT C100 can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the Q650c's min frequency of 64Hz.

Impedance and Sensitivity

Motion XT C100 is a 5 ohms speaker compared to the Q650c which has a nominal impedance of 8 ohms.

These two speakers also have different sensitivity levels. Motion XT C100 sensitivity is rated at 93 dB and the Q650c's is rated at 87 dB. This 6 dB difference makes the MartinLogan Motion XT C100 a more sensitive speaker compared to KEF Q650c, hence will play louder with the same amount of watts.

Power Range

Power range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.

Motion XT C100 can handle a max power of 300 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Q650c has a max power handling value of 150 watts RMS, 150 watts less than the Motion XT C100.

Keep in mind that a higher max power handling value doesn't necessarily make that a louder speaker compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parameters such as Impedance, sensitivity and system efficiencies.

Input Type and Bi-Amping / Bi-Wiring

Motion XT C100 features Custom 5-way bi-wire tool-less binding posts posts which make bi-amping or bi-wiring possible. Q650c has a Binding post which doesn't feature bi-amping/bi-wiring.

Size of a speaker can sometimes become an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons.
