In this review, we will be comparing Ai41 and S 801, two Bookshelf speakers from Fluance and Jamo. The main difference between these two speakers is that the Fluance Ai41 is a Powered speaker which means that it has a built-in amplifier inside the speaker body so you don't need an external power amp or an integrated amp whereas the Jamo S 801 is a Passive speaker so has to be matched with an amplifier to get any sound from it.
Let's have a brief look at the main features
of Fluance Ai41 and Jamo S 801 first before getting into our more
detailed comparison.

Frequency Response
Ai41 has a frequency range of 35-20k Hz whereas S 801 has a frequency range of 76-26k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 35Hz, the Ai41 can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the S 801's min frequency of 76Hz.
Below graphs depict how these two speakers compare with the max, min and average values of the Min and Max Frequencies of other speakers in the Bookshelf class in our database.

High Frequency

None of these speakers achieves full range experience which is commonly agreed as 20Hz-20kHz. In order to achieve lower lows / deeper bass, we recommend you pair these with a subwoofer. Visit our Powered Subwoofers section to find out more about the available options.
Power Range
Power
range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using
an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the
max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.
Ai41 can handle a max power of 60 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Ai41 has a max power handling value of watts RMS , 60 watts less than the S 801.
Keep in mind that a higher max power handling value doesn't necessarily make that a louder speaker
compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parameters
such as Impedance, sensitivity and system efficiencies.
Cabinet Type and Port Position
Both Ai41 and S 801 have rear firing ports. Rear ported speakers generally need more room between the backside of the speaker and the wall compared to sealed and front/bottom ported speakers. Placing the speakers too close to the walls may cause the bass to sound boomy.
If you are limited in space and can't get the speakers away from the backwall, check our Speakers with Front Firing Ports page.
Physical Specs
Size of a speaker can sometimes become an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons. In this section, we are going to compare Fluance Ai41's and Jamo S 801's external dimensions. Fluance Ai41 has external dimensions of 27.7 x 16.5 x 19.3 cm ( 10.9 x 6.5 x 7.6 inches) whereas Jamo S 801 has external dimensions of 285.0 x 156.0 x 163.0mm ( 11.2 x 6.1 x 6.4inch) .
Jamo S 801 is 9mm narrower and 30mm less deeper than Fluance Ai41 but it is also 8mm taller.
Base Surface Area Comparison

The base surface area of the Fluance Ai41 is approximately 318.0cm2 / 49.3inch2 and base area of the Jamo S 801 is approximately 254.3cm2 / 39.4inch2. The Ai41 requires 25% more surface area than the S 801 which gives it a small disadvantage on placement in tight spaces.
