Reference 5 Meta features a 1" aluminium dome with MAT Tweeter , a 5" Midrange and 4 x 6.5" aluminium cone Woofer with a Crossover frequency at 450Hz and 2100Hz. On the other hand, the AK6 features a 1" polyimide diaphragm compression Tractrix horn Tweeter , a 2" Midrange and 1 x 15" fiber-composite with a trihedral exponential folded horn Woofer .
Frequency Response
Reference 5 Meta has a frequency range of 40-35k Hz whereas AK6 has a frequency range of 33-20k Hz. With a minimum frequency of 33Hz, the AK6 can go significantly deeper on the low side and provide stronger bass compared to the Reference 5 Meta's min frequency of 40Hz.
Below graphs depict how these two speakers compare with the max, min and average values of the Min and Max Frequencies of other speakers in the Floor-standing class in our database.
Low Frequency
Floor-standing Speakers
High Frequency
Floor-standing Speakers
None of these speakers achieves full range experience which is commonly agreed as 20Hz-20kHz. In order to achieve lower lows / deeper bass, we recommend you pair these with a subwoofer. Visit our Powered Subwoofers section to find out more about the available options.
Impedance and Sensitivity
Reference 5 Meta is a 4 ohms speaker compared to the AK6 which has a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. Lower impedance speakers, especially the ones that are rated at 4 ohms may put more pressure on the amplifier unit especially when played at high volume levels, so make sure the amp you pair with the Reference 5 Meta can provide this impedance level.
These two speakers also have different sensitivity levels. Reference 5 Meta sensitivity is rated at 88 dB and the AK6's is rated at 105 dB. This 17 dB difference makes the Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 a more sensitive speaker compared to KEF Reference 5 Meta, hence will play louder with the same amount of watts.

Power Range
Power
range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.
Reference 5 Meta can handle a max power of 400 watts RMS from the amp the whereas AK6 has a max power handling value of 100 watts RMS, 300 watts less than the Reference 5 Meta.
Keep in mind that a higher max power handling value doesn't necessarily make that a louder speaker
compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parameters
such as Impedance, sensitivity and system efficiencies.
Input Type and Bi-Amping / Bi-Wiring
Both Reference 5 Meta and AK6 features dual binding post speaker terminals for bi-amping or bi-wiring.
Physical Specs
Size of a speaker can sometimes become an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons. In this section, we are going to compare KEF Reference 5 Meta's and Klipsch Klipschorn AK6's external dimensions. KEF Reference 5 Meta has external dimensions of 1402 x 323 x 467 mm ( 55.2 x 12.7 x 18.4 in.) whereas Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 has external dimensions of 1347.0 x 794.0 x 718.0mm ( 53 x 31-1/4 x 28-1/4inch) .
KEF Reference 5 Meta is 471mm narrower and 251mm less deeper than Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 but it is also 55mm taller.
Below you can see the front view size comparison of KEF Reference 5 Meta and Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 in scale.
Base Surface Area Comparison
Base surface area of a loudspeaker may become a determining factor when the space in your room or desk is limited.
The base surface area of the KEF Reference 5 Meta is approximately 1508.4cm2 / 233.8inch2 and base area of the Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 is approximately 5700.9cm2 / 883.6inch2. The Reference 5 Meta requires 74% less surface area than the AK6 which gives it a small advantage on placement in tight spaces.
Weight Comparison The weight of a loudspeaker can become an important factor if you need to move and reposition the unit often. Weight of a speaker can also "sometimes" be an indicator of the rigidity of the enclosure and the quality of the internal components used. The KEF Reference 5 Meta weighs 60.20kg / 132.4lbs and the Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 weighs 100.00kg / 220lbs. This makes the AK6 66% heavier than the Reference 5 Meta.
Here is a comparison of how Reference 5 Meta and AK6's weights compare with the average, max and min weights in Passive Floor-standing class.
